Bristol Drone Photography
I lived in Bristol for several years, and it’s a city I know well from the ground up. The Avon Gorge, the Harbourside, the mix of Victorian terraces and contemporary architecture – it all makes a lot more sense from the air, and it’s a genuinely rewarding place to fly.
I’m the pilot behind Aircam Drone. I’m CAA GVC-qualified, hold an A2 Certificate of Competency, and carry £1m public liability insurance for commercial operations. Based near Tetbury, I’m about 35 minutes from central Bristol and fly across the city regularly, from the Harbourside and Clifton Gorge to Stokes Croft, Bedminster, and further afield to Portishead and Avonmouth.

Why Aerial Photography Works Well in Bristol
Bristol doesn’t dominate its landscape the way some cities do. It fits into it, climbing the gorge sides, wrapping around the water, with centuries of building layered on top of each other in a way that’s genuinely hard to read at street level. From the air it becomes much clearer.
That makes it a useful city for aerial work. A development in Clifton where the setting is half the point, a construction site where ground photography can’t show the full picture, an events venue that only makes sense at scale – Bristol gives drone cameras a lot to work with.
Where I Fly in Bristol
The Harbourside & City Docks
The mix of the water, the SS Great Britain, the M Shed, Wapping Wharf and the surrounding development makes the Harbourside one of the more interesting aerial locations in the South West. I’ve shot here across different seasons and lighting conditions and know it well.
Clifton & the Suspension Bridge
The suspension bridge is one of the more recognisable structures in England, and from altitude you get the full picture: the gorge dropping away beneath it, the woodland on the gorge sides, the Georgian terraces of Clifton behind. Good location for property, architecture and marketing work.
Stokes Croft & City Centre
From above you get a clear sense of the density of the city centre and how different eras of building sit next to each other. Useful for brand, marketing and commercial property briefs.
Bedminster & South Bristol
South Bristol has seen a lot of residential and commercial development activity. I have good coverage of the BS3 area and have worked on projects there including the Bedminster Green development.
Portishead & Avonmouth
For industrial, logistics and marine briefs, the Avonmouth corridor and Portishead waterfront offer views that are hard to get any other way.
A practical location for construction and infrastructure documentation.
Commercial Drone Photography Services in Bristol
Property & Real Estate
Aerial photography is useful for property where the setting or plot context matters and ground photography can’t show it clearly. Whether it’s a house in Clifton with a garden backing onto the gorge, a new-build scheme in Bedminster, or a commercial property near Avonmouth, shots from above give buyers and investors a better picture of what they’re looking at.
Construction & Development
Photographing a construction project from the air at key milestones gives you a visual record that’s useful for reporting, investor updates, planning purposes and eventually for sales and marketing. I work with developers across the Bristol region on this kind of ongoing documentation.
Events & Venues
Aerial coverage can show the scale of an event or venue in a way that’s difficult to convey from the ground. I’ve shot events on the SS Great Britain and across the Harbourside, and the footage works well for social content, press and promotional material.
Marketing & Brand
For agencies and in-house teams who need aerial content for campaigns or brand work, Bristol is a good city to shoot in. I’ve worked on brand collaborations and corporate commissions across the city and know which locations hold up well on camera.
360° Aerial Photography for Virtual Tours
For businesses that need aerial content integrated into a 360° virtual tour, I can capture the necessary 360° drone photography to sit alongside ground-level imagery. I’ve done this for Motability Operations at their Frenchay campus.
Flying Commercially in Bristol
Most of Bristol sits well outside Bristol Airport’s Flight Restriction Zone, so in practice the city is reasonably straightforward to fly in. That said, flying commercially anywhere in the UK requires the right qualifications, appropriate insurance, and a proper understanding of drone weights, regulations and airspace.
For city centre locations specifically, you also need a robust Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) before a flight takes place. This isn’t just a paperwork exercise – it’s what separates an experienced commercial pilot from someone who’ll turn up and wing it. Urban environments have variables that open countryside doesn’t: pedestrians, buildings, wind channelling between structures, restricted take-off and landing options. Getting good results in a city centre safely takes experience.
As a CAA GVC-qualified pilot with an A2 CofC and £1m public liability insurance, I’ve flown across Bristol’s city centre and surrounding areas on commercial commissions. Every flight is planned properly, documented, and carried out within the UK regulatory framework.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does drone photography in Bristol cost?
Pricing starts from £150 for a small set of images. Larger or more complex jobs - full development shoots, events, multi-location briefs - are priced on the specifics of the brief. Get in touch with an outline and I'll come back with a straightforward quote.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day?
Weather is the one thing neither of us can control. If conditions aren't suitable for flying safely - high winds, poor visibility - we'll rearrange. It's not worth rushing a shoot in marginal conditions and ending up with footage that doesn't do the job.
Do you need special permission to fly a drone in Bristol?
Most of Bristol sits outside Bristol Airport's Flight Restriction Zone, so a large part of the city is relatively straightforward to fly commercially. What you do need regardless of location is a qualified pilot, the right insurance, and a proper understanding of the regulations. For city centre work, a Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) is also required. That's all standard practice for a properly run commercial operation.
How far in advance do I need to book?
It varies depending on the time of year and what the job involves. For straightforward shoots, a week or two is usually fine. For more complex jobs or anything requiring specific authorisations, a bit more lead time helps. Drop me a message with your timeline and we'll work it out.
Do you do drone video as well as photography?
Yes. I can shoot stills, video, or both on the same visit depending on what you need. Most commercial clients take a mix - stills for property listings or press use, video for social content or marketing campaigns.
Are you insured for commercial drone work?
Yes. I carry £1m drone-specific public liability insurance on every job. Full documentation is available on request.
